Sony has a strange way of doing focusing while in live view. After you press the live view screen for changing the focus the camera will go into sort of focus mode and it will not allow to change the properties.
Currently to exit this focus mode in qDD you must press the AF button.

Found the error that prevents the connection sharing to work. The problem is that qDD sends the connected DSLR list in wrong format

On iOS devices only wireless connection is available as noted in application description.

In qDD running on Windows you should enable 'Allow connection sharing' then connect to the DSLR. I tested with USB/MR3040 on Nexus7 (2012) and Samsung Galaxy S2 (both have custom ROMs) and didn't had such slowdown.
