I am trying to connect my Nexus 5x device to my Nikon camera via USB cable. The Nexus 5x has USB C. I couldn't find a Nikon cable with a USB C plug, so I purchased a USB C -> USB (regular) cable. I connect both cables, plug them in and can see that the camera connects (a usb icon shows up in the Android message bar).
When I open it, it says "USB supplying power to attached device" - Tap for more options.
Clicking on it, brings up a menu:
Use USB to
Charge this devide
Supply power
Transfer files
Transfer photos (PTP)
Use device as MIDI
But the only option that seems to work is "Supply power".
And when I open up qDslrDashboard and choose the USB icon to connect, it just stops (get an Android error message).
Any ideas how to fix this?

Hello friend, the connection must be made using a USB OTG. Did you using this cable?

People think highly of Proextender because it works well.
