Hey there, not that much going on here yet, huh?
I used the no longer supported Android app with my Nikon D3100. Worked great (only storing images on Tablet SD card didn't work). Well, I got the new app today and...nothing works. It recognizes my Cam via USB with an Samsung Tab S. But I can't capture and the app does not display any capture.

Will check however the D3100 is a budget model without a documentation for developers from Nikon and with a very limited set of PTP commands.

You only need an USB OTG adapter for your Android device.
As I wrote in the previous post D3100 will work but it is limited as it is a budget model.

It is a budget model with no documentation from Nikon and only with a limited set of PTP commands.
No live view, no movie recording, no BULB.
Does not support the event command so there is no property change notification.

You need an USB OTG adapter, not just a micro USB to USB cable.

You have wrong USB-OTG adapter.

As Hubaiz wrote - you need USB-OTG adapter for your phone. Than you connect adapter to phone, and camera to adapter.
