EOS R connects, but badly

Using version 3.5.9
I connect the Nexus tablet to the wifi of the EOS R.
I ask qdslrdashboard to find a canon camera. It does.
Instantly the screen on the camera goes black
If I try any functions on the camera the little LCD screen on top of the camera says 'busy'
I click the LRTimelapse button in qdslrdashboard and it says the Camera must be in M mode, but the camera IS in M mode.
What am I doing wrong?
