After I posted did some test and actually I manage to save RAW files to Photos.
However with Canon CR2 this works but for Nikon NEF for some reason the files becomes a TIF file.
Will try to figure out why isn't working with NEF files.

The D3300 will work however it is a budget model with no documentation for developers from Nikon and with limited set of PTP commands/properties. Not sure if movie recording can be started on D3300. You can transfer and view RAW and JPG files with qDslrDashboard.
However the iOS Photos will only accept JPG images.

I know about the RAW+JPG error and already fixed it, will soon submit a new iOS version for review and also release a new version for other platforms. I think you can overcome it by setting the image format to JPG and then when in LRT set it back to RAW+JPG using the camera menu. Regarding the MR304...

On what platform do you use qDD?
I can build a debug build that would output debug messages and maybe help to figure out the problem.

Aperture can be added from camera, focal length will only work on Nikon DSLR.
