Sky Safari Pro is a good example of "night vision" red screen implementation. The only problem with in-app solutions is the moment you leave the app (can easily happen by accident) you get flashed by a bright blinding screen. A "hardware" solution is Sirius Astro Products' "Red Eyes Cling Light Shield" red static cling film (http://www.siriusastroproducts.com/prod ... hield.html). The film does not interfere with touch screen operation. I've been using in on iPad and iPhone for a couple years or more. For OS X the RedScreen app disables green and blue display channels. It doesn't matter what application is running, even Windows apps running under Parallels. What the world needs is a RedScreen app equivalent for iOS (and Android, etc.). The red cling film is vulnerable to being blown off by a strong wind gust. Searching downwind for a piece of red film in the dark... done that.
