Infinity setting

Hello,

I am intrested in astrophotography. One problem some astrophotograhers have is to find the right focus point. Stars are not as bright in the view finder as you might think. A solution to this problem could look like this:

The You take pictures of the bright moon which is easy to focus with qdslrdashboard. The focus distance to the moon is the same as the focus distance to the stars. Now you store the settings. Some nights later - the moon is not shining and its pretty dark - you just hit a button and your lens is set to the right focus distance. It would be great if there would be a way to store infinity settings for different lenses.

Unfortunately it is not that simple. The camera does not allow exact focus control it only allows to move the lens focus by a defined step into the defined direction. So there is no way to tell the camera lens to move the focus to the defined position.

Just an idea:

does the camera "tell" the app, when the end of the focal scale is reached and it starts to focus in the other direction?
If so, would it be possible to define the point by saying, the lens should go to the "return point" an then X number of steps back?
