TP-Link MR3040 firmware install with MacBook

Post by mmckeag »

I'm using a MacBook Pro to install OpenWrt on a TP-Link MR3040 V2, but so far without success, following web page instructions and video tutorial. The MacBook has no network connections except Ethernet to MR3040. Several attempts to access MR3040 OpenWrt web interface by entering http://192.168.0.1 in web browser (Safari) have failed. Checked System Preferences > Network and find Ethernet status is Connected with Self-Assigned IP. The video tutorial illustrates a workaround in Windows, but I do not know how to translate to a procedure that works within OS X. Default for Configure IPv4 is "Using DHCP". I've tried to configure manually, but without success. It would help if I actually knew what I was doing. Anyone succeed in programing the MR3040 in OS X? What's the exact procedure?

You need to enter manually configure IP for your computer.

Turn off using DHCP, and enter IP: 192.168.0.x (x other than 1)
And subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Good uncle Google will tell you how to do it:

Thanks GonzoG. Your suggestions got me over the hump. OpenWRT installed and configured on the MR3040. On to the next step, see if iPad and D800 talk to each other (and make photographs together).
