0.2.7 iOS Crashes so often it's unusable professionally.

Post by bobjones »

I have been embarrassed by this software trying to use it professionally.

Using an iPad 4 retina with iOS 8.3 a Canon 5D mark ii and the TP Link MR 3040.

It crashes randomly and frequently.

It also hangs at "capture in progress" randomly. The only way to fix the capture in progress hang is to unplug and replug the TP link from the camera.

I can't use this professionally. It's the most incredibly awkward moment when the client (AND A MODEL) watch me fumbling about dealing with crashes and hangs.

If your software is not stable, don't release it!

Fix this or refund me.

- Never bring untested gear to a shoot, it's not professional.
- How does one refund for free software?

I don't have time to wait for a next version.

I don't know how you convinced Apple to sell this software when it is so unbelievably unstable.

It's unusable and it has embarrassed me in front of clients. It makes me look like a fool in front of clients and models.

"Sorry everyone, my iPad crashed again... Give me a minute" (While I fumble about trying to make it work again).

I have a very important week long shoot starting next Monday.

I highly doubt you will have a new version by then so it looks like I will be buying a Camranger...

You're right Philip, it's my fault.

I shouldn't use this software, it's untested and unprofessional.

The iOS version is not free. It's $9.99 from the iTunes store.

I do a lot of testing before release but can't test every DSLR.
The bug that you experience with the Canon 5DM2 is not present with the Canon 650D that I have for testing.

Oh, well, strange. On the introduction page the first sentence is: "qDslrDashboard is a free cross platform application for controlling Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras. "

That said, the last sentence is: "Note: qDslrDashboard is still under development and probably there are errors that needs to be fixed and functions that are not fully implemented."

On the iTunes store it is not indicated anywhere that the software is still "under development".

I bought the app as fully working software and did not realize I was paying to beta test it.

For me, usually the version number starting with 0 is just enough an indication that it's a version which may either lack some important features or may be instable.
In my opinion qdslrdashboard is a great piece of software and even if it was entirely free I wouldn't mind support its author ever being aware that it contains some bugs.

You'd probably be better off grabbing CamRanger and pay 300USD for it.

BTW, how much did you pay to Apple for the privilege of betatesting its products?
