D3400, Samsung Galaxy S6, not connecting

Just bought QDSLR 3.5.5 off Play Store. Plugged the OTG cable into my NIkon D3400, a USB cable into the OTG, and the USB cable into my phone. Lauched QDSLR and selected USB Device and the "connection info" screen shows "13.23.34 Searching for USB Devices". It's been sitting like that for 10 minutes. What am I missing? Is there a setting on the camera I need to change, or something to set in the QDSR settings? Thanks! Would love for this to work, rather than returning it.

What Android device do you have? Does it have the USB host function?

First - you never use OTG cables, those are crap.
With Nikon D3xxx and D5xxx only use USB cable that came with camera.
Use USB-OTG adapter and connect it to phone, and camera cable connect to adapter.

This is the only way it will work.
