Succeeded in connecting the D850 using the built in WiFi to qDslrDashboard 3.5.5 on a Mac using Snapbridge on the iPhone (iOS 11.2 beta 4, but anything else should work either. Actually, this two devices strategy works quite nice and you can even turn the iPhone off once the camera is connected to qDSLRDashboard on the Mac.
