Android media scanner not notified?

I've noticed when I pull jpg and nef files off of my camera through wifi with the qdslr app and I go over to the Android lightroom app to import images it does not see the new pictures downloaded from the camera. If i go into the Android developer tools menu and manually trigger the media scanner and go back to lightroom the images show up as available to import. I'm not sure if the issue is qdslr or lightroom app. from my most very basic understanding of Android programming I thought I remembered reading something that an app has the ability to send an intent or something to tell media scanner there are new images or something along those lines. If qdslr is already doing this I can log this with lightroom.
