emotimo and qdslrdb

I am trying to use Emotimo with it set up to "external trigger" which works fine with my Canon 5d MKiii but when I try and use the time lapse function in LRT within qdslrdashboard it won't trigger the eMotimo. I am using the flash sync cable but for some reason qdslrdb won't send signal out my 5d. What am I doing wrong?
