D750 Focus stacking with extension rings - Restricted range?

Post by kinglevel »

Hi

I have been playing around with extension tubes with a Sigma 85mm 1.4 lately. Gives some cool shots.

But it seems like adding extension tubes messes up qdslrs focus range?
I cannot come close to infinity at all, just half way, around 1.5m.

Without rings i can focus the whole range, as normal, but not with them added.

Is this a known issue?

Kenko extension tubes.

The focusing is done by the camera not qDslrDashboard.
qDslrDashboard only sends the command to camera for focus movement and the camera executes it or if it can't it responses back with an error.

I did test with the Sigma 105 that I have and the 36/20/12 extension tubes and worked. Switched the lens AF limiter to FULL and had no problems.

It is not qDD problem. Extension rings reduce focusing range drastically, eg. 50mm lens with approx. 70mm extension ring will focus only at few centimeters in front of the lens. And with some lenses if you are too long extension ring you won't be able to focus at all because focusing distance will be inside the lens.
