DDServerAP Limited connection

Post by trailofundead »

Hi, I'm trying to connect my Nikon D810 to my PC via the TL-MR3040. I'm new at sorting out networking, so these may be daft questions, but please bear with me.

I've flashed the router with the DDServer firmware, and it's now showing in my network connections as DDServerAP. However, it's showing 'limited' connection, with the firewall shield icon. I assume I just need to permit my firewall to allow it to connect, but I can't find the app/feature in the firewall settings.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Thanks,
Dave

If you can connect qDD with camera - ignore it.

If not, check computer IP if it is in 192.168.x.x range - if not that means you have done something wrong with router config and there is no DHCP turned on.

The router gives the address as 192.168.0.1, and I can't connect to that wirelessly. When I originally plugged in the router with the 'normal' firmware I could connect, and it showed up in the Network Infrastructure in Windows explorer.
The difference between connecting wirelessly with the original firmware and the DDServer firmware seems to be the firewall.

Next, I've connected the router to the PC via ethernet, and I can access the router at 192.168.1.1
The PC ethernet settings show Local Area Connection - Limited

With the router connected by USB to the camera I can't see any sign of the camera being connected. I can't connect via qdlsrdashboard.
So I just plugged in a USB stick to the router while connected via ethernet, and I can't see that in explorer.

I expect I'm doing something really dim...any ideas?

I didn't ask for router IP but for IP of yours computer but if you can't connect with it via WiFi it means that something is rather wrong with IP configuration not firewall.

Try flashing again "sys-upgrade" fw to router, maybe it will help. I never had problems with connecting with WiFi after flashing OpenWRT.
If it won't help connect with Ethernet cable and check if DHCP is turned on. Don't have access to MR3040 right now so cannot check where it exactly is.

And this "limited" connection can mean that you don't have internet connection.

Thanks again Gonzo.

I've got it working now, I think the only difference was turning of my usual wifi connection first.

I'd like to have the camera connected and the usual wifi router connected too. Is it possible to have both connected?

I've just installed the app for my phone, so I'll try that next. All looking good!

It is possible. There are 2 ways:

1. Buy USB WiFi card and use it to connect do WiFi created by MR3040. This way you will be able to stay connected to your existing WiFi and connect do camera but it will only on computers or tablets with full Windows. Cannot be done on Android or iOS.

2. Change MR3040 configuration to act as network client and connect it to your existing network with static IP adress. But this need a bit more changes in MR3040 configuration (don't now exactly what) and has a big downside - every time you would use it without your WiFi network or use other existing WiFi, you would need to connect it with ehternet cable to change configuration.

I recommend first one - it's much easier and faster but if you want to do this on phone, than the second way is the only one.

I only want to do it on the PC so that's fine. In fact I already use a USB wifi adapter to connect to the home wifi, so it's easy enough to get another. Simple solution thanks!
