Nikon D810 with iPad 4

Hi all,
i am at my wits end with this, I've downloaded the app today to use with my D810 and iPad 4.
The app downloaded no problem and i am using the new USB 3.0 cable that came with the camera, i have bought a genuine apple OTG cable and connected as per instructions and a couple of youtube videos.
the app opens but when i switch the camera on it is like it is not there?????????
please help i am losing the will to live lol.
