Sony A7r2 capturing image when focus fails to lock on

I've noticed that when shooting with my a7r2, if the focus fails to get a lock such as in low light or when using non native lenses qDD doesn't respond very well. It seems to be stuck waiting for the resultant image. I guess it hasn't been told by the camera that the capture hasn't been initiated but I'm wondering if there might be a better way to handle this situation.
