Hi,

Are there any user here using latest Nikon DSLR like D5 or D500?

I am using a TP-link 3040 V2 and connect to the Nikon D5 camera. Sometimes it works perfectly. But sometimes I cannot connect to the camera via qDslrdashboard app (both android or iOS version). Then I noticed that the "3G LED" light on the TP-link did not light up whenever I failed to connect.

After some try and error, including changing other usb cable, re-flashing the firmware... etc, I still cannot solve the issue. The most fluctuating thing is sometime it works but sometime it doesn't. So far I can only notice that somehow, the TP-link cannot trigger the camera to enter the PC-mode.

Interestingly, I have another D700 camera which seems working fine so far. However, I also verified that the USB port of my D5 camera is fine because whenever I connect it to my computer via that USB port it can be recognized immediately.

So two questions:

(1) Does that mean somehow the D5 internal software got some updated when connecting with the TP-link? Or on the other hand, the TP-link firmware need to cope with the new update?

(2) Actually, do I need to install the ddserver package updater? In face I didn't do it but it seems working no problem with D700, so I thought that is not compulsory update?

When using the MR3040 after turning it on always wait till the wireless LED is on and only after that connect and turn on your camera.
If you connected from qDslrDashboard to the camera then always close the connection to the camera from qDslrDashboard connection/device screen (bottom part shows the connected cameras)
If the connection is not established try also to long press the 'Network' button and enter 192.168.1.1 as IP and finally press the 'Ok'.

1. No update is sent or is there any need to cope with new update. The MR3040 and ddserver does not know anything about your camera firmware.
2. If you flashed the OpenWrt firmware available in Downloads then you don't need as it already contains the latest ddserver package.

I've tried to follow your instruction (the sequence in connecting the device) but have no luck. So far, It is not the problem about connected from qDslrdashboard to the camera. It is the problem about connection between MR3040 and the D5 camera via USB. I've tried to unplugged and plugged the USB connection on MR3040 for several times until the 3G LED light up (which means the MR3040 detected the connection successfully), then when I unplugged and plugged it again, the LED gone, and until I tried again and again for a couple of times it lights up again.

However, when I tried this "unplugged and plugged" process while connecting to my another D700 camera, the 3G LED light up every single time and working perfectly.

So I wonder if the latest Nikon cameras like D5/D500 have some differences (hardware or software) to their predecessors? Or, will that related to the issue between MR3040 and USB 3.0 connection? As the D700 simply use USB 2.0 mini-USB.

Any further idea I can go through to check or read the system log that can give you some hints?
