very laggy

I have tried qdslr with my Nikon D5100, and my galaxy s4 phone. I have also tried it with a 7" rca quadcore tablet running KitKat 4.4.I find the live view is VERY laggy on both devices. Like a bad stop motion film! I have also installed DSLR dashboard from the play store.
It seems to have a way less laggy live view. Is this my equipment or the app?

I'm connecting via usb OTG to both of my devices.

I am using it with a USB OTG cable on all of my devices. The lag is about twice that of DSLR dashboard!
