d3100 no live preview

Hello all,
i've installed the correct driver using Zadig on my computer and then connected the camera using usb.
after starting the dash the camera gets recognized and i can change all kinds of settings, even take a photo.
unfortunatly i cannot see the live image, the screen stays black.
when i want to change the camera from the settings menu to live view, the camera-screen also gets black.
what am i doing wrong here ?
