Nikon D3xxx integration question

Hi guys,
Many other apps such as Astrophotography Tool don't support the Nikon D3xxx claiming that there is no official SDK and they don't have time to reverse the protocol. I see that qDSLR is one of the very few that support this. How is it implemented?
