Be sure that the RPI is not auto mounting the USB connected camera.
What do you get on the screen of ControlMyCamera?
Eventually disable mobile data on your iPhone.

Data was not the issue, apparently only one of the four usb ports on the pi4 will work. sorry for the delayed response I had to reregister to post a reply. I now have DDserver up and running on both a pi zero W and a pi 4. Is there any way to have the files save to a USB drive connected to the pi 4?
