WiFi connection to Nikon Z9

With the latest version of dslrdashboard on Windows 10, I'm able to connect my laptop to the Nikon Z9's WiFi, and then dslrdashboard finds the Z9 and connects to the camera.
Then the WiFi drops just a few seconds later.
By contrast, controlling the Z9 via USB works, as far as I can tell with limited testing, perfectly. The thing of it is I need the USB for charging, and want to control / timelapse the Z9 via WiFi.
Not sure what to try next, interested in ideas.
