How do you get the D7200 to work?

My Nikon D7200 works for both my mac and my andriod phone, but when i try to record from the camera and see the video recording on my mac or android it doesn't work. I don't even get the option to start to record. It's just greyed out.
Is there something I'm missing? is this not a feature that works? The only other program I can find that lets me do what I want is like Nikons, Camera Control Pro 2 and that retails for around 150 dollars which is rather unfortunate. Any advice would be appreciated.
