I think that this could be done given the Nikon live view solution that you were able to work out for LRTimelapse. The focus point could be changed over time in a time lapse sequence. This would could also work with a 2 axis and 3 axis motion controller that can be controlled from the camera in a slave mode.

I already think about his but had no time yet to try and implement it.
I hope in future version I could add a focus control if LV is active while in LRT.
