Video control

Post by somewhereinusa »

Great app, just a small glitch. I can't seem to get video to start recording. I have a Canon 5D MK II and am using a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. I have attached a screen shot of my tablet. If I understand the instructions, in live view mode, the button I have indicated is the one that would toggle between video and still shots. I assume that pressing this button would change the icon to a movie camera icon much like the one to the left on the main screen that is NOT highlighted. And, the non highlighted button would now be highlighted and usable. Everything else works both tethered and wireless using the TP-Link MR3040. I know that the camera is capable of doing this because it works in dslrdashboard for android version 0.30.33 with a tether.

Is anyone using this combo successfully? Would possibly a different Android device solve the problem?
Thanks,
Dick

No it wouldn't.
Seams on 5DM2 switching to live view movie mode is done with a different command/value.
Will check the code to see if I can find out why it does not work.

I finally got it to work, thanks Alnglese

After hours of unsuccessful attempts, I finally found this way to record videos with qDslrDashboard + 5D Mk II, using an USB link or a Wifi one in conjuction with a MR3040:
  1. establish connection between Android terminal and 5D
  2. activate Live View on Android terminal
  3. activate Live View on 5D using the button located on top left of the camera screen
  4. once the 5D screen is on you can start/stop recording videos from the Android terminal using the camera button under the AF one

After you do this all of the buttons work as expected, ie: button changes to a movie camera and turns red while recording. Works on both the phone and tablet. Not quite "all is well" but it does work. Biggest problem is if you do anything that releases the live view button on the camera you have to go to the camera and set the button again. Also if you try to take a picture while video is recording, which is possible using just the camera, it will freeze everything and you have to reboot everything including camera. I don't know if the code for dslrdashboard and qdslrdashboard are in any way alike, this feature worked the way it should in dslrdashboard while tethered.

Thanks for the great app,
Dick

If you have time and willing to test I can make a debug build that can maybe help me determine the problem source. I presume it is a property value the is wrong interpreted.

I'll do what I can to make a great app even better.

Here is a V0.2.7 Android debug build: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxMZ8X ... sp=sharing

It will create a qdd_<date_time>.log file in your Documents folder, please send this file to the support email.

Start live view and then try to activate the movie recording mode from the 'Camera properties display'

Finally try the way you described.
