qDslrDashboard V0.3 beta9 issues on Android ARM and Mac OSX .64

Post by imagency.eu »

Hey,

first off: I'm a new user and don't have experience with older versions of qDD.
I'm very impressed with your goal and it has the potential to be a game changer.
I would be mighty happy if it all would work out. 'Inshallah' as we say here in Istanbul...

All these issues are with V0.3 beta9...

CASE 1:
with set up:
Canon 5D II and III
Samsung Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 running Android 4.4.2

I am unable to connect to either cameras using USB. Checking the 'use root for USB access' option in settings does not make a difference.
What is this 'root' anyway? I'm new to Android.
So, I guess it's something with my SM-T210 because the OTG-cable is brand new...

CASE 2:
Canon 5D III
Mac Pro running OSX 10.10.2
Using an original Canon USB cable all went well. (I tired most common settings and LRT auto holy grail.) I'll do some additional testing but so far no bugs detected.

CASE 3:
Canon 5D II
Mac Pro running OSX 10.10.2
Unable to connect the camera. I will now update the cameras firmware from 2.0.9 to and 2.1.2 and see if this makes a difference.

CASE 4:
with set up:
Canon 5D II
Samsung Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 running Android 4.4.2
TP-Link MR3040 version 2

A stable connection, all settings are accessible but I am unable to to make changes to shutter speed, aperture and iso etc. except autofocus. Selection menus pop up but my selection is never registered.

CASE 5:
with set up:
Canon 5D III
Samsung Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 running Android 4.4.2
TP-Link MR3040 version 2
Again, all went well. (I tired most common settings and LRT auto holy grail.) I'll do some additional testing but so far no bugs detected.

In short:
I'm not able to use Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 through USB. I am open for suggestions.
TP-Link MR3040 allows connection but with 5D II it is flawed. I will get back to you after upgrading camera firmware.

I will make further tests and report. Is there something specific you would like me to take a look at?

Thanks for the brilliant work!

PS: After my next payday, I will make a donation ;)

Does the Samsung Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 has USB host? When you connect your DSLR with the USB OTG adapter do you get a dialog with a list of application that can work with the connected DSLR?
Here is a link with some information regarding USB host: http://android.stackexchange.com/questi ... tg-support

Did you maybe press the 'AF' button? Can you just try and connect to camera and after the connection is established try and change the properties?

A bit strange that the 3DM3 worked and the 2 wont and it worked with the MR3040. Is there maybe an application on OSX that uses the camera?

Galaxy Tabs 7" (at least Tabs 3 and 4) do not support USB-OTG so USB connection won't work.

Hello guyz,
CASE 1:
with set up:
Canon 5D II and III
Samsung Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 running Android 4.4.2
OTG-USB connection is not supported on device... OK, but I don't consider it a big deal. I saw it more as a failsafe in case MR3040 would run out of batteries in the field. It's not a deal breaker.

Solved: Canon EOS Utility was set to auto start upon camera connection. It was running in the background and after closing it and restarting qDD all went well... without changing firmware.

Solved: yes, 'AF' was pressed...
This is probably known as a RTFM-problem: Read The F*cking Manual

So, all is well... but I did notice something else:
While using 5DII
- Mac Pro OSX 10.10.2 using USB or MR3040
or
- Galaxy 3 7.0 SM-T210 running Android 4.4.2 using TP-Link MR3040 version 2

The slowest shutter speed I can select is 1/30s unless you use Bulb.

While using the above in combination with the 5DIII 30s is possible before having to go to Bulb (as to be expected).
Is there a way around this or do I need to use Bulb if I want something slower than 1/30s on the 5DII ?

Thanks a lot and keep it up!

You should have the slower shutter speeds to. Is the live view maybe set to movie recording (not sure how it works on 5DM2) or maybe a flash attached?

Hey Zoltan,

No flash is attached.

In the camera I went to 'Live View/Movie funky. set.' and selected in 'LV funct. setting' the 'stills only' option with 'exposure simulation' on.
(previously it was on 'stills+movie')
And now it the problem is solved ...

thanks for your quick reply!

First off thanks for all the work on this.

Canon 5DMIII
Galaxy Tab 4

When I shoot bracketed shots the first group works, After that the buffer hangs and the files never transfer to the tablet.
The only way for me to recover is the pull the battery out of the camera.
It does not seem how long I wait between each group.

I've had this problem on all the V0.3

The non beta works fine.

I'm going to test with a 5DMII today to see if the problem is the same.

Thanks
